What We Do
Organizations Objective
The objective of the Queen of Hearts Foundation is to support a current research project directly focused on factors thought to be associated with the early detection of Ovarian Cancer. In meeting our objective of promoting awareness and education about Ovarian Cancer, we plan to host a Gala and Tennis Tournament. Our 2009 financial objective is to raise $150,000.
Strategy for Reaching Goal
The foundations primary fundraiser will most likely take place in February of each year. Our first event was held on Saturday, February 3, 2001 at The Pacific Club in Newport Beach, California. It was a gala black tie event with a silent auction, DJ, strolling magician and a lovely buffet dinner with four different station and types of food choices. We were “sold out” with 320 people who joined the festivities to support our cause. The event raised $115,000 that evening which exceeded our stated goal of $100,000.
Our second annual event was held on Saturday, February 2, 2002 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Newport Beach, California. It was a Mardi Gras theme with silent auction, strolling magician, jazz music to start, buffet dinner, casino and dancing by the band, “The Answer to Rock”. Lovely meal stations were featured including a “New Orleans Faire”. We raised close to $100,000 for the evening.
Our third annual event will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2003 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Newport Beach. The evening will be a “Beach Blanket Boogie” theme with a silent auction, buffet dinner, and music by the popular band “The Answer to Rock”. Lovely meal stations will feature a beach theme. Our goal is to raise $100,000 for the evening.
In the future, we plan to vary our fundraising activities by adding different venues and themes. We are researching the feasibility of a run/walk event geared towards families, a birthday party honoring those who have succumbed to this dreaded disease and an annual giving club.
To reach our objective of promoting awareness and education about Ovarian Cancer, we will be planning a speakers luncheon featuring dynamic and informative specialist in the medical field to talk about prevention of Ovarian Cancer. This luncheon will also include an update on the funded research progress. The specialist could include a medical oncologist to talk about cancers in general, a gynecological oncologist to discuss female cancers and what advances are being made in this area and a genetic counselor to discuss the chances of getting Ovarian Cancer, based on your family history of any or all cancers in your family.
We would also be honored to find an Ovarian Cancer survivor. She could talk about her “walk” with Ovarian Cancer and put the “heart” and human factor of why we are all working so hard to raise funds for an early detection test. Ultimately, we would like to see this test used on every woman who goes in for her annual check-up.
